ProducingWE WERE CHAMPIONS was one of the most humbling experiences we've had in recent years.

Imagine, actually meeting and talking with national sports heroes that we had only read about or admired when we were in school. It was a thrilling, surreal, almost child-like encounter, even at our age.

All eleven of them and Firdaus Daud, son of the late Daud Ibrahim, were so welcoming and candidly shared their stories of victories and heartbreaks, on and off the field. So too, did their family, friends and close associates.

In return, we took great pains to respectfully chronicle their lives and their achievements in this six-episode series, put together with the kind assistance of FINAS, RTM, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and the National Sports Council (MSN).

We were especially blessed to meet and inteview on camera, the late Datuk Namat Abdullah, just five months before his sad passing in 2020, and also the late Datuk M. Kuppan who sadly left us in December 2021.

WE WERE CHAMPIONS is hopefully, a fitting national archive of a colourful era in Malaysia's sporting history (1960s - 1990s).

This, is our small contribution to national sports.
